Duo and Zoom Blocked in OFAC Countries

To comply with economic and trade sanctions by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), both vendors announced they are blocking access from countries or regions subject to economic and trade sanctions. If a computer or mobile device connects using an "IP" (network) address from one of the regions, it will not be able to reach or use the program.

Duo will be restricting access beginning May 5th, 2022 for the following:

  • Cuba
  • North Korea
  • Iran
  • Sudan
  • Syria
  • Crimea region
  • Donetsk region
  • Luhansk region
  • Sevastopol region

Once Duo blocks service, users in these regions will see a Duo error message: "Access denied. Duo Security does not provide services in your current location."  Note that Duo MFA is required when using CUIMC VPN, or when signing in to email and Office 365 apps from off campus.

Zoom already began restricting access for some countries and regions in March:

  • Cuba
  • Iran
  • North Korea
  • Syria
  • Ukraine (Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk regions)
